Fibonacci Squares

This is an easy afghan to illustrate the mathematical sequence of Fibonacci and the golden ratio.  Not everyone is into math illustrations in their afghans, but you know, I'm a little strange.

The afghan is really quite simple to make using basic granny squares.  You will need two squares of 1 round each, 1 each of the following sizes: 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34 rounds.  This combination makes a good throw.  If you add on a 55 square granny, it's more like a bedspread size.  Sew the squares together in the following pattern:

And so on, with alternating on each side.  I made two versions, one with solid colour squares, and one with alternating colours on each round.

The multicolour version is great for scraps.  The solid colour version, you'll need more and more of a colour the bigger the squares get.  The 34-round square in cream here took something like 10 oz of yarn.

I added a very simple border at the end just to smooth out the joins a bit.

This afghan is part of a series of afghans I made using squares of differing sizes.  Each one was made with squares of different types: random solid colours, different colour rounds, alternating colour rounds, same size/same colour, etc.  Feel free to mix and match.  Check out the whole series:
