Articles, Op-eds, Essays & Opinion Pieces

The first article/op-ed I ever published was in the Lake County News Herald in 1992.  I am still trying to track down a copy of it so that it can be included here, because it's been lost in my own files.  This is not counting the numerous letters to the editor that appeared there an elsewhere over the years.  The op-ed I wrote was significant, not only because it was my first, but because it earned me a death threat for coming out as an atheist.  I guess I shouldn't be surprised anymore.  One of the other longish letters I wrote and was published in Vidya, was pulled from the archive: I was writing in response to one member's conflation of homosexuality and pedophilia, and apparently, I started a flame war.  I seem to have a bit of a knack for arguing passionately about topics others find to be controversial.

I will include here published articles.  Unpublished essays can be found in my non-fiction/articles link to the left.  Articles are linked in .pdf format.

The Lake County News Herald, 1992, on Separation of Church & State/Prayer in Public Schools

In 1992, a letter of mine was partially quoted on CNN.  Too bad they left out the best part.

In 2001, the local Mensa group published this rather lengthy letter to the editor in response to this editorial (note that the highlighting error occurred after scanning the original document and was not contained in the original).

I currently write, since September 2008, a monthly column in the Columbus Area Mensa newsletter.  My series of columns can be accessed here.  I archive all these articles on my writing blog, also.  Toledo Mensa republished Disaster!  My term as LocSec ends in July 2010.  Whether the series continues after that remains to be seen; time is my enemy.

Truthfully, I haven't been very careful about archiving my appearances in print, and occasionally I recall ones I had forgotten.
