Brief History of Taera Taera was founded in S.Rh. 0. The calendar officially begins at S.Rh. 1 at the new year immediately following the founding the previous autumn. At this time, the ancestral home of the Children of Daela, had existed as a nation for 3743 years (y'Daela imn), a timeline which itself began approximately 2500 years after the birth of the Children of Daela. This time period where the founding of Taera took place is often referred to as the Time of the Exile, since the founding Families had come to this place after being exiled from their old homeland. (more on this at another time) The Exiles were led by the younger brother of the now King of their former home. Power among the Children of Daela had been being diluted and was weakening for some time. First the abilities of men and women were separated, and then finally, through intermarriage with humans, families came to be divided further among those who could wield magic of any kind, and those who could not. The Exile was prompted when this happened in the royal family, and many wanted the younger son who could use magic to take the throne in his brother's place. So the magic users, rather than start a civil war, agreed to leave and came to Taera, bringing the Priesthood with them. Initially, the prince's family, the forefather's of the Te Daelan Family, remained nominally in control of the country, though some of his power was eroded, through creation of the Council. But later, twin sons were born to the prince, and again there was conflict when the younger son proved to be a better sorcerer than the elder son. So, power was divided, the more powerful son became the first Dragon Lord, and the elder son, the first Lord Primary--dividing the houses of the Te Daelans and the Taeradthins.
