Personal Interests Crochet Square Spiral
This afghan was made with Paton's Decor yarn, 12 skeins of Antique Gold (A) and 12 of Green Earth (B), using a G crochet hook and a yarn needle. Square: Ch 6. Slip stitch in initial chain to form ring. Rnd 1: Ch 3. Work 15 dc in ring. Join with slip stitch to initial chain-3. Rnd 2: Ch 1. Sc in same stitch, and each of next 3 dc, ch 3. *Sc in next 4 dc, ch 3. Repeat from * around and join with slip stitch to initial chain. Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in same stitch and each of next 3 sc, *(2 sc, ch 3, 2 sc) in ch-3 space, sc in next 4 sc. Repeat from * around. Join with slip stitch to initial chain. Fasten off. You will need 324 total squares. For a 2-colour afghan, as I have done, you'll need 162 of each colour. (For a 4-colour afghan, you'll need 81 of each colour.) Join together with whip stitch from the back side using only back loops according to the diagram below.
Border: Rnd 1: Join with slip stitch with Color A to any sc. Ch 1, *sc in same space and in each sc across to corner using back loops only. 3 sc in each corner. Repeat from * around. Join with slip stitch to initial chain. Fasten off. Switch to Color B. Rnd 2: Join with slip stitch. *Ch 5. Sc in 4th stitch from previous. Repeat to corner, (ch 5, sc) in corner. Repeat from * around. Slip stitch to initial chain. Rnd 3: Slip stitch to center of ch-5 space. *Ch 7, sc in top of next ch space to corner. In corner, (ch 7, sc). Repeat from * around. Slip stitch to base of initial ch-7. Fasten off and tuck in all ends.
