6 Squares

You will need 6 shades of yarn: I used 5 dark shades (black, dark orchid, teal, burgundy, forest green), and 1 light shade: white.  (You can switch this, of course.)

Begin by making 6 three-round granny squares in black.  Fasten off.

Rnd 4.  Join white in corner with a slip stitch.  Chain 1, 2 sc, ch 2, 2 sc in corner space.  *Ch 2, 2 sc in next chain space.  Repeat across to next corner.  Ch 2, 2 sc, ch 2, 2 sc in corner space.  Continue from * acround to last chain space.  Ch 2 and attach to initial chain with slip stitch.  Fasten off.

Rnd 5-6: In dark orchid, complete two rows of a standard granny square. Fasten off.

Rnd 7: Repeat Rnd 4.

Rnd 8-9: Repeat Rnd 5-6 in teal.

Rnd 10: Repeat Rnd 4.

Rnd 11-12: Repeat Rnd 5-6 in burgundy.

Rnd 13: Repeat Rnd 4.

Rnd 14-15: Repeat Rnd 5-6 in forest green.

Rnd 16: Repeat Rnd 4.

Rnd 17-18: Repeat Rnd 5-6 in black.  On Rnd 18, assemble the squares (starting with the second square) by replacing the chain spaces with slip stitches into the chain space of the square to be attached.  Assemble along 1 side or 2 as needed to get three rows of two.

Border: Repeat granny square rounds twice in black, then Rnd 4 in white, granny square round in dark orchid, then one in teal, Rnd 4 in white, granny square round in burgundy and one in forest green.

Last round: Join black into corner.  2 sc in each chain space, slip stitch across cluster, and repeat around.  Join with a slip stitch and fasten off.
